Holywell Jamaica Hiking

I love to go hiking with the bros. Had lost of fun the last time I went to Holywell, spent 2 nights camping and hiking around the mountains. Got lost on the longest hiking challenge with Paul when we decide to go off the trail and ended up in Portland. Walked for hours but it was worth it. You get tired, see beauty, get scared of being lost, get lost, ask questions, cut new paths or find ancient ones, back track bad ones, use your sense of direction and land marks to find your way but always with a joy and satisfaction.

Word of advice, stay on the well known paths unless your are with someone skilled and experienced or you could get lost for hours even days in those mountains.

If you ever want to take the hike on your own, being familiar with Kingston/Jamaica, take taxi from Papine and ask to be taken to Holywell (they should charge about $1000 – $1500 JMD). Bring $250 JMD /per night (2018 – 2019).

They have all you need except tents. I mean, these people have their shit worked out. There is a shack shop so bring you bacon, fire wood/coals for their fire pit or being your own grill.

They even have bathrooms round the mountain so you can shower with spring water in privacy, yes toilets are fabulous. Its camping with options 🙂

I wont say you wont regret it… YOU CANT REGRET IT! Its just amazing!

After two days i was restored, mentally physically and emotionally, literally. Right now im so over worked and stress and cant find the time worse my pals are away but im fixing to get at it.

Be prepared to meet the who is who. usually its the more wealthy folks that you will meet here since Jamaicans don’t seems to make or sometimes have the time, or whatever else, to get to the camp site, not that its out or their reach, but I just don’t see the enthusiasm, most don’t even know the mountain exists. Pretty sad stuff. I highly recommend it!

I remember finding a falls and also once picking a sour wild berry, then finding a hidden path and appearing like a pioneer in some beautiful clearing. The type of stuff you see in movies with the little mushrooms growing on a log covered with due sprinkled green rich moss.

I loved the huge pan fried sausage I had, though im sure my cholesterol spike dramatically when i decided to add cheese but i figured it was the best place to punch out the old clock.

Oh back to what i was saying, bring your tent, lights (the ranger hut does have solar powered electricity to charge your devices if need)

Not sure what else to tell you to bring apart from your ass. Just take whatever makes you comfortable.

There are no bears if snakes so you have nothing to fear but it is very cold at nights so be prepared for that. If you need a camping pal then comment me your request and we can work something out.
